Get The Confidence To Succeed As Interior Designer

Confidence is something you can learn. You earn it.

Being in business isn't for pussies. You will have people who will knock you down and make you think you're not good enough.

The key to success is to know you've got what they want.

You need balls. But smart balls.

You could be one of these people online with big balls, but nothing to back it up. They've got big stupid balls. Thinking that they are the shit, but soon they'll be found out. But I know you've got the talent so that's where the smart balls come into play.

When you've got the big balls that are smart, you know how to use your power wisely.

Your clients want leaders. They want someone confident in what they have to offer and who knows how to get them what they want. And you don't doubt yourself.

If you're not confident that you're the best damn designer on the planet, you're sunk before you begin.

Confidence isn't something you have right away. It comes from knowing your shit. Knowing what your clients really want and their deepest, darkest thoughts. You know your craft so well you could talk about it in your sleep. That's why you must be a constant student, know your business and clients better than anyone else.

But how do you get confidence?

When I started my business I didn't have much confidence when it came to running my business. It wasn't like they taught this in design school. And after working years in the commercial field, my residential experience was nil.

I got it from being in the trenches day in and day out.

I got clients to believe in me. Once they did, I proved to them by delivering. Being their advocate. Then I took those wins to bolster up my confidence.

The same came with my business now. I worked with clients and helped them earn multiple six figures. I mean, come on. I know my stuff and I had the results so I could confidently sell myself.

Before that, I had to grow my confidence by myself. I did that by listening to songs that made me feel powerful. That made me believe in myself.

It sounds silly, but if you're working alone, and you don't have a cheerleader in your corner who knows what you're doing to grow your business, I find music is something to help me get inspired.

Confidence is smart balls

If you think you're average you need to quit.

You need to believe that you're the best damn designer on this planet. That you've got something so unique that if the world didn't see it, they would be missing out. You need to know deep down that THEY are missing out if they don't hire you.

And never justify yourself to anyone, ever. If someone comes to you asking for you to persuade them to hire you, tell them to fuck off. You don't have time to waste with them.

Lastly, grow your business like it doesn't matter if you succeed. I mean that. If you act desperate, you won't succeed. Grow your business with balls to the wall. Be audacious. Do and say the shit that you really feel.

There was a point in time where I wasn't sure I would be around this time a couple of years ago. I don't want you to go through that emotional turmoil to know this: when you've got nothing to lose it's the most freeing thing that you can feel.

Your family will always be most important, so when it comes to crushing it in your business you can have the feeling that if you've put everything out there you'll win. I promise you.

We often get constricted mentally by all sorts of bullshit. Just know that when you feel like you left your heart on the table and gave it everything you've got even when there is no profit to be made, that's when you know you've made it. You don't give a shit if you get the money from the asshole because you know you're worth more than dealing with that crap.
