The point of your blog is not to be a thorn in your side that become the bane of your existence, even though I know it feels like it at times. You need to look at your blog as a money maker! So, let's dig into some ways that you can monetize your design blog.

If you're not making money now with your design blog, I would assume one of two things: Either you're new to blogging OR you haven't optimized your blog content to be found by others.

And that's perfectly fine, because you can grow your earning income with creating good, quality content that brings your page views and that's what will help you to monetize your blog. Honestly, you will need at least 50 pieces of content on your blog to start seeing the page views go up substantially. But, success is inevitable when you've done everything right, it will just be a matter of time.

5 Smart Ways to Monetize Your Design Blog

Affiliate Income

When it comes to ways to monetize your blog with affiliate income you have a lot of options such as signing up with a program like Reward Style, ShopStyle Collective, Amazon or ShareA Sale, etc. There's a bunch of them.

You could add a weekly "Get The Look" feature to your blog where you share your favorite picks with affiliate links for chandeliers, or pillows, or sofas... whatever you want to pick.

With those picks, you can create not just a blog post, but a Pinterest and Instagram image to share. And ya know people love those! Then you share them, bring them back to your website and you have an opportunity to get clicks on your links.

Ads

You can sign up for Google AdSense and place ads on your blog. You'll need substantial pageviews to make this profitable, but with time and great content, that shouldn't be a problem.

There are other ads that can be placed on your website with other players in the space that may require a certain amount of pageviews to join their program.

You can also sell your own ads on your website. If you're got a relationship with small businesses, they may enjoy the opportunity to advertise on your website. Know that you'll want to wait to sell ads until you can provide them with the benefits of exposure by purchasing an ad on your website in a Media Kit that you'll create.

Sell A Digital Product

Do you have some time-saver type of resource that your clients would find helpful like a budget worksheet? Your digital product doesn't have to take a million hours to create. Start simple and put it up for sale.

Sell A Membership

Offer a monthly membership where your subscribers can pay you a recurring fee to get access to your expertise. Maybe you offer a monthly Q+A session for members to ask you to help them with their home or you share video how-to videos for them.

Create An Online Course or Host A Workshop

If you love to teach your niche, you can host a live event monthly course or workshop online where you can help them to learn something that you're an expert on. Maybe you're the color master and can offer a course on picking a cohesive paint color palette.

If there's something that people constantly ask you about that would be something you should consider first if you can offer that as a class.

Offer eDesign Services

I know, duh, but you should offer eDesign services. I've got 10 eDesign Service Ideas to get your brainstorming started.

Post Sponsored Content

Sponsored content can be a great way to monetize your interior design blog if the sponsor is a great fit for your clients.

Obviously a sponsored post from a paint or wallpaper manufacturer makes sense for your audience. Where as sponsored content from a social media app wouldn't make any sense.

With any sponsored content offers you entertain, only go forward with that if you know that your audience will find value in it and you also believe in the company because your audience trusts you and what you offer.
