How To Sell Interior Design Services That Clients Buy

You google for hours trying to figure out how to sell interior design services. You're thinking that no one is checking out your site, but they are. Ready for a story? Good.

She saw your post on Facebook and clicked over to your website.

It led her directly to your blog post, which she read in full. She was intrigued.

She clicked to your Home page.

Except you were talking in the third person about your one-person operation as if you had fifty mice in your pocket working with you. She couldn't quite figure out if you could help her or not.

She clicked on your About page and she felt she was watching the Biography Channel.

Let me summarize your About page: You went to school, you got some certifications and you did some important work (according to you), but she didn't know exactly what you would do to help her.

Work, she thought to herself looking at your website navigation, maybe I can figure out if she can help me by checking those out.

She hovered over what she guessed what your Services page (except you named it "Work" and not obvious like Design Services) and was confronted with a drop-down menu that confused her. She took a chance and clicked on the first option.

She read it and felt like she was back in college, having to ascertain what you were selling. There was lots of designer speak and she was starting to get annoyed. You talked all about decorating but not once did you mention how you solved her problem or showed her what the happy ending was gonna look like. She was ready for you to sell her on how you could help her and you lost out.

All she wanted was your help and all she got was confused.

You're sabotaging yourself and don't even know it.

People don't wanna be a crime scene investigator and figure out what the eff you're selling.

Look, her mother-in-law is coming to town and she doesn't have the time to decode your terminology to figure out if you can help her. She liked your work, but all you did was leave her confused.

She just needs to know if you can be her partner in crime to make her home look so awesome that her mother in law's jaw drops to the floor rendering her speechless for an entire weekend.

The key to figuring out how to sell interior design services is to know if you're being clear about it all.

Stop and take a day to figure out if you're being clear. If you're not, you're losing sales.
